The top 10% rule and how it is applied
The basis for this rule was the LMU Bylaws Concerning Tuition and Administrative Fees.

Regulatory framework (specifications of the faculty)
- Every semester, during each given examination period, the top 10% of all Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Diplom students who have completed their final exams will be ascertained.
- The peer group consists of all registered students irrespective of whether they were subject to tuition and administrative fees, whether a leave of absence or exemption was granted or allowed, etc.
- To ascertain the top 10%, the Examinations Office will set a cut-off grade.
The cut-off grade is the cumulative grade of the graduate whose grade is the lowest of all those within the top-10% peer group. If the top 10% does not turn out to be a whole number, then the sum will be rounded up to the next whole number. Should several students have the cut-off grade, they all will be included in the top 10%.
Prerequisites for retroactive exemption from study fees (see: Bylaws)
- The student must have graduated within the standard period of study (plus one semester), that is, a maximum of seven semesters for a B.Sc., a maximum of five semesters for a M.Sc. and a maximum of eleven semesters for the Diplom.
- The student must be among the top 10% of his/her graduating class, whether it be B.Sc., M.Sc. or Diplom. (It is also possible to receive retroactive reimbursement for both programs if the student was in the top 10% of each program.)
- The student must apply for reimbursement within a year of his/her graduation.
Study fees will be reimbursed in full upon successful application. No administrative, tuition or basic fees will be reimbursed!
You need to submit your examination certificate and certification of your membership in the top 10% of your class (grade transcript).
