Besides working hard we regularly need to refresh body and mind. For that we go out into nature, typically on a mountain hike in summer and for a ski-trip in winter. The summer hike may take one or two days.
The ski-trip typically takes us out for 2 nights to a Ski area, mostly in nearby Austria. If you are not a skier, you may become one (we have even convinced our student from Shanghai) or spend the days hiking etc.
At the end of the summer semester we invite the undergraduate students for a small Volleyball-tournament and afterwards a barbecue ( and perhaps some beer) may fill up the batteries.
At the end of the year a little Christmas party with Glühwein and cookies and some hearty Bavarian snacks closes the row of the social events. Again, the professors and the Ph.D. students invite the undergraduates that have “suffered” under our supervision.
In non-regular intervals, we go out for 2 day excursions with the Ph.D. students to meet colleagues at major companies in industry and/or at other university institutes. Trips to Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Basel were on the list so far.
