Aim of the degree program state examination in pharmacy is the admission as pharmacist (approbation). The pharmacist is an expert for drugs and mainly works in public pharmacies. Other fields of profession are hospital pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, the Federal Armed Forces, health authorities and universities. The increase in numbers of public pharmacies and the reformation of the healthcare system led to a higher competition. One has to keep in mind, that this degree program offers a solid basic knowledge for many natural-scientific orientated tasks.

Additional study programs at the LMU

The PhD is not necessary for daily work in a pharmacy. For higher professional aims, such as working in the pharmaceutical industry or in a hospital’s pharmacy, a PhD is recommended.

The thesis is performed under the surveillance of a lecturer, which is supposed to lead to independent scientific work. The topic of the thesis is part of one of the following fields: pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical biology and biotechnology, pharmaceutical technology and bio pharmacy, pharmacology or pharmaceutical history.
